This is the American 81mm M889, a High-Explosive-Fragmentation (HE-Frag), fin-stabilized mortar-bomb, developed for use in the M252 improved 81mm mortar-system intended for use against personnel and light material targets.The complete mortar-bomb round consists of a fuze, propellant-charge, fin-assembly, ignition cartridge and main-body.The mortar-bomb body, made of ductile cast-iron, is loaded with a RDX & TNT filler.The ignition cartridge has a percussion-primer and is assembled to the end of the fin-assembly.The propelling-charge is contained in four horse-shoe felt-fibre containers and assembled around the fin-assembly shaft.The M889 and the M889A1 both use the Point-Detonating (PD) M935, however, the more modern M889A2 uses the Point-Detonating (PD) with Delay (DLY) M783 fuze.
